Intro
This exhibition of contemporary jewellery by Vicki Mason came about due to Mason’s current interest in water use in gardens. Triggered by hot summers and seeing lawns dry out and her garden’s plants burn in the heat, Mason has since been investigating plants that can survive and even thrive on rainfall alone once they have been established.

Artist list

Vicki Mason
We live in a country where water is a precious resource that needs to be conserved and adapting to our environment means planting gardens that are in harmony with it. This series of new work is informed by this thinking and by the make and break nature of climate change which is upon us.

Botanical motifs have a long history within jewellery’s imagery so are a rich source for reinterpretation and investigation. Vicki Mason uses combinations of flexible pedestrian plastics (upholstery and stationery remnants), textile processes and materials alongside metal and metal technique to create a cross media/material discourse that works across traditional classifications of what jewellery and textiles should be.

About the Studio:
The combined gallery studio opened in January 2008 and showcases work by Australian and international contemporary jewellery artists. Studio 20/17 provides the opportunity for both emerging and established artists to exhibit their work within the larger context of an established contemporary arts environment. It is a place where design lovers can interact with the creator of the work, purchase pieces or just admire the art. Studio 20/17 aims to increase the profile of Contemporary Art Jewellery within the broader arts arena
