Intro
Gioielli in Fermento is back: the sixth edition will be on May 2016 with the Torre Fornello Award contemporary jewellery exhibition.
The competition, open to established, emerging jewellery artists and students, registered more than 200 applications. It consists of creating and exhibiting  a unique piece of jewellery inspired by a specific theme which is changed every year but always in some way related to the world of wine.
The themes presented by Gioielli in Fermento offer an opportunity to exhibit innovative works:  every year it has been enphasised an aspect that can create a possible harmony between the contemporary world of ornament and the contemporary world of wine.

The theme inspiring the selected works in 2016 is: Freedom & Constraint  |  Libertà e vincolo
a piece of jewellery is an amazing combination of freedom and constraint, like wine is
Inspiration, dedication, experience, research, innovation, observation, choice, challenge ...
these are all elements of the creative approach that we can use to focus both on the activities of a jeweller or on those of a wine maker, they constitute a similar reading of their works: both a piece of jewellery or a sip of wine are evocative of the individual interpretation of the raw material chosen by their maker. In both cases the aim is to turn the natural into something precious and unique.

The winner of the competition will receive the Torre Fornello Award supported, together with JOYA Barcelona Art Jewelry Fair, by Enrico Sgorbati, the owner of the winery in Ziano Piacentino (in the lovely Val Tidone hills in Emilia Romagna) who in this place brings together his greatest passions. He has always been interested in artistic trends, which he appreciates in all their forms, and has for about a decade offered artists the opportunity to work together, experiment and compare their work in his lovely estate where he creates contemporary art events highlighting the ever more important connection between good drink, culture, and beauty. As he uses to say: "producing wine is like creating a work of art".
It is in this context of “inspiration” that Torre Fornello renews the teamwork with Gioielli in Fermento and Eliana Negroni, founder and curator of the project, designer member of AGC the Italian association for contemporary jewellery.

The resulting exhibition is hosted at Torre Fornello Winery in its impressive spaces dedicated to the Vineyard of Arts
An advisory board of international experts has been invited by Enrico Sgorbati (Torre Fornello) with the coordination of Eliana Negroni  (project curator) and Gigi Mariani  (AGC and goldsmith artist) and the members are: Roberta Bernabei (SAED Loughborough University UK), Leo Caballero (Klimt02 Art Jewellery Online and Gallery), Charon Kransen (Charon Kransen Arts, gallery, New York), Paulo Ribeiro (Joya Art Jewellery Fair Barcelona).
In addition to the works in competition, this year a remarkable selection of guest artists' works is to be highlighted: hors-concours artworks providing the perfect backdrop for a dialogue among the contents of competition. Exhibiting art jewellery by Efharis Alepedis, Sofia Björkman, Liv Blåvarp, Maria Rosa Franzin, Gésine Hackenberg, Gigi Mariani, George Plionis, Niki Stylianou, Fumiki Taguchi, Jasmin Winter.
The Torre Fornello Award and other special mentions, both for established artists and arts and jewellery design students, will be assigned during the opening day with the collaboration of our international partners (Agc associazione gioiello contemporaneo, Joya Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair, Klimt02 Art Jewellery Online network).
The prize consists of the participation in the Joya Art Jewellery Fair in Barcelona, October 2016, the winning artist showing his/her own collection. Other prizes will consist of the presence for one year of the artist's personal profile on Klimt02 network platform, as well as AGC membership for selected awarded students.
More opportunities will make the selected works travelling through the annual Gioielli in Fermento #gallery circuit in Italy and abroad, listing also oversea venues.

The exhibition will also show a series of images of Les Métissages expecialliy designed for Gioielli in Fermento by Nichka Marobin, art historian and founder of The Morning Bark, the blogazette on arts and human relations, and the eagerly awaited Art jewelry Young outfit performing young generations wearing the Torre Fornello Award and the Gioielli in Fermento #gallery collections.
In 2015 the Torre Fornello Award has been assigned to Sébastien Carré (France) for the ring "Several scale of grapes" and to  Akis Goumas for the necklace "Spirits of a Symposium" evoking memories on archeology experiences and mediterranean cultures. Main cover for the 2015 project has been the brooch by Corrado De Meo titled "The colours of the night", now part of an American private collection.
During 2015 the collection of works has been also exhibited at Museo del Bijou (Casalmaggiore), Casa del Design (ADI Milano), Expo2015 (Milano, Pad.Piacenza), Associazione Stampa Estera (Milano), Cassina Showroom (OffJOYA Barcelona). The program for 2016 will be soon updated.

The exhibition will be on at Torre Fornello (Fornello di Ziano Piacentino) until  May 22. During that time there is another important international date:
this is a two day intensive seminar, May 9-10, with Charon Kransen "Re-writing Your own script II" dedicated to contemporary jewellers willing to question themselves and get in touch with an international situation that has been a point of reference for more than 30yrs in the international art jewelry sector, mainly in United States (Charon Kransen Arts New York).
