Intro
The selected artists for the Mari Funaki Award 2016 are  announced. The major exhibition will take place at Gallery Funaki and this years Jury members are: Catherine Truman, Kate Rhodes, Simone LeAmon.

We're pleased to announce the shortlist of exhibitors for the upcoming Mari Funaki Award for Contemporary Jewellery.  We received 413 entries this year, from a record 48 countries. 

Mari Funaki Award 2016 Judges: 

The judges for the 2016 competition will award prizes in two categories: an $8000 acquisitive prize awarded to an established artist, and a $2000 cash prize awarded to an emerging artist. The winning piece by an established maker will enter the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria (subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees). The winners will be announced at the opening of the Award exhibition on Tuesday, August 23rd.

Simone LeAmon has established a career as one of Australia’s foremost design creatives, working internationally for two decades as a visual artist, industrial designer, industry consultant, curator, writer and university lecturer. Her practice, Simone LeAmon Design and Creative Strategy, explores cultural values and social practices. Working with architect Edmund Carter since 2008, LeAmon leads Carter LeAmon Design and Architecture Studio.
Simone was appointed the Hugh Williamson Curator of Contemporary Design and Architecture at the National Gallery of Victoria, Australia, in 2015. She is a lecturer in the Industrial Design program at RMIT University (AUST) and adjunct lecturer at Monash University MADA (AUST).

Kate Rhodes is a curator at RMIT Design Hub.  She has been creative director of the State of Design Festival, and curator of its Design for Everyone program. She has worked as adjunct curator at Object: Australian Centre for Craft and Design, and as editor of Artichoke, an architecture and design magazine. She has also worked as a curator at the National Design Centre and at Craft Victoria, and was assistant curator of Photography and Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Victoria for five years.
Kate is a founding member of the Office for Good Design, and is currently an editorial advisor at ARTAND Australia magazine.

Catherine Truman is an established artist working across the disciplines of art and science, and a member of the Gallery Funaki stable since 1995.
She is co-founder and current partner of Gray Street Workshop in Adelaide, South Australia, where she currently works and lives. In 2007 Truman was awarded a multi-year Australia Council Fellowship. Truman was appointed to the Visual Arts Board of the Australia Council in 2012. She has recently been named South Australia Living Artists Festival Featured Artist for 2016.
Truman has exhibited all over the world and is represented in major collections in Australia and internationally.
