Intro
The workshop aims to broaden the technical resources and skills of the students whilst also challenging them to think critically and reflectively about their work as a part of the creative process.
The main objectives of this workshop are the use of formal investigation, intellectual reflection and material exploration. As a starting point participants will be asked to employ the visual language of simple, abstract or figurative form. Beyond this, they will be encouraged to think further and reflect on the significance and inherent meaning of these forms.

The main technique that will be demonstrated will be ‘embatado’, or the hollow construction of three-dimensional forms in metal. The use of non-traditional jewellery materials such as wood or plastic will also play an important role, as will do the techniques of ‘assemblage’ and the combination of other materials.
In this workshop we will be supporting the student´s own individual ideas with specific techniques.

Students will be encouraged to research and use of the rich variety of textures that can be realised on metal using different tools, as well as explore texturing on other materials such as wood or plastics that can be achieved to great visual effect.

Participants will be free to use their imagination using found objects (objet trouvé) as well as graphic images in their work. The workshop will also promote the use of and give an insight into, the theory and language of colour.

Essentially the workshop aims to broaden the technical resources and skills of the students whilst also challenging them to think critically and reflectively about their work as a part of the creative process. For this reason, students will be encouraged to make prototypes and models as methods of experimentation in preparation for making the final piece.
