Come on, let’s Play

Artists often express their urge to evoke emotions. To make the onlooker feel something is often mentioned as one of the reasons why they create art. But what does this really mean? What is transferred from the artist to the art piece and finally to the viewer/wearer and can it be controlled? This is one of the aspects that we will look closer at during the exhibition Play for Display.

With this exhibition we want to engage the audience with the jewellery. We will encourage the visitors to try on the jewellery and experience it’s character. To us wearing a piece of jewellery is a bit like putting on perfume - the two personalities will affect each other and create a special result, a result that in its turn will be experienced differently depending on who you meet.

Application to Play for Display is open for international artists in the field of jewellery and students doing the final bachelor year or further along in their studies. When applying we ask the artist to add a short description of the emotions or reaction you expect the wearer to experience when wearing your piece. This statement will be incorporated in the exhibition and our goal is to make a vivid presentation of the wearers’ reactions. Deadline for applications is midnight Sunday, june 30th. Follow the easy steps here!

The word Play is strong. It is something we have all done as children. Some may say it is a preparation for our adult working life, some claims they will never stop playing. Wearing a certain costume, a make-up, a perfume or a piece of jewellery can provoke or enhance a state of mind, it can get you into character and stimulate your imagination. Come on, let’s play!

Hope to see you at the exhibition at Gallery Four, Göteborg in September.
