Pin is the sixth in a collectible series designed by respected art jewelers
Art Jewelry Forum (AJF), a global nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the creation, study, and appreciation of art jewelry, is pleased to announce that it has commissioned Swedish jeweler Hanna Hedman to create a limited-edition pin for the organization. The pins will be distributed in 2016 exclusively to new and renewing AJF supporters at the $125 level and above as a donor benefit.
Hedman's design is a chemically etched flat brooch made out of stainless steel. AJF calls it her flat pack brooch, but with a twist: it is packaged as a jewelry kit containing a steel push tool so that the wearer can bend and manipulate the brooch into a three-dimensional form.
Hedman states, I am still trying to push the metal in making three-dimensional objects out of flat sheets. The objects develop organically during the making, without much preplanning of the finished results. The flat pack brooch engages the recipient to play an important role in creating the final piece. Providing the parts and tools, Hedman introduces us to a democratic design process: We do our part, you do yours, and together we create jewelry.
AJF is excited to provide its donors with an opportunity to own, construct, and covet such an alluring piece of jewelry.
AJF wishes to thank the following: Doug Bucci for making the arrangements; Barbara Berlin, Michele Fox, and Barbara Waldman, art jewelry collectors and long-time supporters of AJF, for funding the project; and Natalya and Kevin Brooks for donating the packaging, which Natalya designed, for the pins.
While there are two colors of this brooch available, AJF is not able to honor requests for specific colors. Please take this as an opportunity to meet other supporters of AJF--through social media or at events like exhibition openings--to swap brooches and meet each other. We hope this creates a lively exchange among like-minded supporters of AJF.
