Enric MajoralEnric Majoral, personal work
Enric Majoral has worked for over thirty years creating an oeuvre that has always evolved through intuition, experimentation and an unbridled, unlimited creativity with materials and techniques. His pieces have mainly been built on the worktable, the very physical conditions of the materials and a personal universe that emerges from the natural force that condenses the island of Formentera, the Mediterranean Sea, the historic substrate of this country and the primeval nature of the popular and crafts culture.
Enric Majoral has created collections based on his unique pieces, series that have always been hand-crafted in his own workshop. When creating these collections, he has been actively helped since 2003 by his son Roc Majoral and his colleague Abril Ribera, who provide their own vision and creativity to Majoral, thus conferring a thread of continuity and future without sacrificing the firm’s hallmark.
Enric Majoral, with more time freed up for his own more personal and artistic creations, which he has always upheld throughout his career, and without the limitations inherent in adapting works to the demands of a collection which must be commercialised, now devotes more energy to developing this creativity.
Years back he delighted us with his Capelletes (Small Chapels), or small silver, gold and paint architectures-charms; interior spaces and interplays of volume. He has also regaled us with the pleasure of including living beings in jewellery pieces that are placed over the skin, such as lichen in stones in the series Trossos de Formentera (Pieces of Formentera).
His latest works include Joies d’arena (Sand Jewels): rings, pins, bracelets and charms made of silver or bronze which stand out for their rough, grainy texture reminiscent of sand. He also delights the eyes with the colours of rust and paint covering the primarily organic shapes. Enric Majoral has a longstanding history of working with bronze, and it now grows in the guise of what he calls pots i llavors (pots and seeds): vessels and small objects with varied shapes featuring rich texture and colour patinas. Outstanding among his bronze pieces is the massive sculpture called Abeuradora per ocells (Bird Watering Place), which he made expressly to be installed in a park in the German town of Stipshausen, which was officially unveiled on 21st October 2006.
Enric Majoral conceives of jewellery as a form of expression and a worldview. Experiences, nature, our very origins and memories of places are the roots of his oeuvre. And work and life are inextricably intertwined. His unique pieces can be seen in specialised art galleries as well as in Majoral shops.
