This course is designed to explore working with different waxes such as the traditional carving wax and modelling waxes used in the jewellery and dental casting industries.
You will learn traditional techniques with an experimental approach to working with waxes (combining them with unusual materials, stones etc.). You will learn how the lost wax casting process works and the differences to other casting techniques. The course will also give you an insight into cold mould making, trapping items and different materials within your piece. The wax masters will then be sent off to a casting company to have them cast in metal, We will cover how to finish your castings, including traditional techniques such as filing, filling in pores, sanding and polishing. During the finishing process, you will be encouraged to experiment with your designs to reflect your ideas and inspirations.
