Intro
Inbar Avneri's work is unique in its level of integration between intuition, improvisation, pristine execution and meticulous planning; bringing these values into a state of flow that melts away the distinctions between them. This flow, which informs us of its presence through motion lines and quick transformation of shapes and appearances, is also the mental space in which her "creatures" are born, a wind-swept primordial plane of her own design.
/ Yoav Miller and Anat Grozovski Aboucaya
There is an internal logic to Inbar's jewelry that goes through a constant slight mutation, in order to fit each piece's separate mode of existence. This suggests that a careful and comparative approach to her work will allow us to obtain knowledge of her visual grammar, that is filled with anecdotes, self-quotations and a complex process of additions and subtractions, all suggesting the language, not so much of an essay and more of a song. It is this harmonic quality that takes the center stage once her work is placed on the body, charging the small spaces around it with the energy of that flow and of its intricate, internal, yet completely exposed relations.
/ Yoav Miller and Anat Grozovski Aboucaya

Sparked by Jorge Luis Borges’ Book of Imaginary Beings, Avneri’s creative process was a study of animal characters in folklore throughout history. Inspired by these stories, Avneri sketched imaginary animals, which then evolved into three-dimensional metal creatures.

I chose to deal with animals because, for me, they represent options. Options for fulfillment, escape, and change. Multifaceted and unpredictable, animals aid us in understanding the world. They can be used to explain various natural phenomena. We can attribute them picturesque, eccentric qualities that we humans would not dare to associate with ourselves. And unlike real animals, which are also the heroes of many fables, imaginary animals and their abilities will never become extinct. As in the real world, evolution will work on them. Only this time, your own needs would guide it, and the choice of who to be when you are with them will always remain yours.
