The Key to Klimt02
We promised to give you some insights on what is going on at Klimt02, behind the scene. It is time to share an ordinary day working with this online community. After arriving to Còrsega 317, settling in and discussing last night’s football results (Barça - Real Madrid 2-0!), we turn on the computers and open the mailbox.
The mailbox – this is where it happens. E-mailing is one of the most important tools to keep this business running. During one day we have correspondence with people from all over the globe and we are reading mails from and sending answers to Argentina, Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Mexico, USA. The stream of information is fantastic but sometimes hard to handle. Writing what you mean and understanding what another person has written it sometimes more difficult than it sounds.
Here in Barcelona most people speak both Spanish and Catalan. Whether to use the first or the second is decided the first time you get introduced to a person. The language used at the first encounter is the language you use from there on after.
Knowing which language to use is a good start. We are certainly not fluent in either Catalan or Spanish, although we, like two parrots, repeat every Spanish word Leo says. The rest of our Spanish vocabulary we have collected from cereal boxes, the free newspapers and useful words like cargando (loading) and enviar (send) from el ordenador (computer). But when speaking, the exact words are not always that important. Gestures and tone helps you a lot to get across what you want to communicate. When it comes to e-mails, you do not have these other dimensions of language.
So after the small talk we dive into the mailbox and eventually we get an idea of what all the text and images means. We cut and we paste and sometimes with gathered forces we translate a German presentation or a title in Portuguese. The result is finally presented on Klimt02 – this amazing living platform of communication.
We all take part in this online community – jewellers, gallery owners, organizers, collectors and admirers of contemporary jewellery. This is a network based on communication.
What have you been working with for the last months? Perhaps you are a member and you realize that it is time to share your latest project with the rest of the world. We want to know! Send us an e-mail, we post the new info on your profile and voilà – you are instantly communicating your work to the 89.815 pair of eyes that looks at klimt02.net monthly.
Jewellery communicates and communication is the key.
