With a focus on emerging talents, this collection introduces a number of young artists to SOFA. Among them are Aurélie Guillaume (winner of the L. A. Pai Gallery’s 12th National Student Jewellery Competition, Canada, juried by Susan Cummins, Leo Caballero and Mary McIntyre); Anne-Marie Rébillard (selected for Schmuck 2015), Gabrielle Desmarais; Silvie Altschuler; Catherine Sheedy and Anne-Sophie Vallée. Several artists, including Seulgi Kwon (recipient of the 2015 Art Jewelry Forum Artist Award), Heejoo Kim and Yong Joo Kim, have created new works specifically for this event.

Must-see events at SOFA Chicago 2015!
Jamie Bennett: Drawing and Making
9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Room A
Drawing, thinking and making are closely linked in the work of artist Jamie Bennett. Rather than serving simply as renderings of his jewellery, Bennett’s drawings represent fragments of ideas and images that result in new pieces. In this lecture, the artist will explore the relationship between these distinct creative endeavours.

Jamie Bennett: Evolution of an Idea
12:30 – 1 p.m. Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h, Booth 1202
Jewellery artist Jamie Bennett will discuss his process, tracing the seed of an idea through research, drawing, and its final iteration as a finished work.

Borders Be Damned: We Are All Citizens of Craft
12:15 - 1:15 p.m. Room B
A group of cunning Canadians will discuss their perspectives on the value of craft, based on the manifesto statements of the Canadian-made, universally appealing “Citizens of Craft” movement. Presentations by glass artist Susan Rankin, jewellery artist Pamela Ritchie and curator Janna Hiemstra will provide a Canadian context, leading into a discussion of the border-crossing, boundary-breaking, meaningful movement of craft, relevant no matter where you live in the world.
Artists represented in order of listing: Option Art, Montreal; Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h, Montreal
