18Karat Studio + Gallery
- Fiona Chong, Alta Cain
StatementMassimo and Dino Giannetti founded 18Karat in 1961 as a traditional Italian goldsmithing studio in downtown Toronto. Over half a century, our workshop has evolved to become a hub for diverse Canadian fine jewellery and contemporary craft, made possible by the expansion of our permanent gallery in 2014. Now located in the historic Rosedale area, our gallery delivers a modern touch to one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city, while our workshop upholds an old-world standard for outstanding goldsmithing.
We are very proud to be one of the few jewellery galleries in the country that choose to exclusively represent Canadian artists and designers. Along with a rotating permanent collection of work from many of Canada’s most well-respected metal artists, 18Karat regularly hosts exhibitions for new work created by established and emerging artists alike. Both in our gallery and workshop, we focus on pushing the boundary of what is possible - showcasing work that expresses the technical mastery of a medium with endless opportunities for imagination and creativity. Our aim is to explore the relevance of jewellery in Canada today, and to create a space in which the limits of craft are constantly challenged - not only by those who create, but also by those who experience it. In the skillful hands of our family of artists, contemporary jewellery bridges the gap between art and craft, bringing together the best of both worlds; concept, skill, functionality and design.
