Bio

Leslye Qin Zhang wishes her work presenting her personality could always hold the glamor and keep alive even when she immerses herself in the crowd. Based in Shanghai, China. She learned professional knowledge and skills of contemporary jewellery design in the metal craft studio at Shanghai University Academy of Fine Arts in 2018. And in the year 2021, she received her degree in MA Design (Jewellery and Metalwork) from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. 

Statement

Because of her background in biology, ZHANG likes to focus on the overlooked creatures.
Her works use the visual language of jewellery to highlight the threat posed to underwater creatures by human activity.
 
She chooses metal wire crochet to evoke this submarine world: organic, colourful, soft, and transparent.
Yet meditates on the challenges posed. The challenge is that every step is irreversible, but the advantage is every step is innovative. Everything revolves around the design theme, creating new connection methods, structural shapes, and flexible and smooth visual language expression.
 
"Living things are irregular. The rules will never be mine. Each piece of work is like breeding a unique life, this is my creation state. Error is beauty, a work of nature."
