‘CONTAINER objects’ is the third part of the CONTAINERS collections, an artistic research for the potential of disposable packaging in the making of contemporary jewelry. Although the
‘CONTAINER objects’ are not wearable on the body, the link with jewelry is present and can be found in the characteristics that evoke the connotation of jewelry pieces. Note the shiny materials, the bright colors, and the details; … don’t they remind you of a piece of jewelry?
The ‘CONTAINER objects’ can be either placed on a surface or hang on the wall of the frame, whereby the object will relate to the space.
The ‘CONTAINER objects’ exist entirely of casts from disposable packaging from the supermarket. Unlike the pieces from previous CONTAINERS collections, in the ‘CONTAINER objects’ there are no additions such as nylon, rubber, cotton or steel. Each piece is made out of resin and plaster, which results in interesting colors and a go together of transparent en opaque parts.
The ‘CONTAINER objects’ are like gemstones for your home! Anneleen Swillen is inspired by the way daily goods are consumed and (re)presented. The
CONTAINERS collections (‘CONTAINERS’ (2014), ‘CONTAINERS in context’ (2014 – 2015) and ‘CONTAINER objects’ (2015)) draw attention to the intrinsic but often unnoticed qualities of things in our everyday surroundings.
The pieces from the CONTAINERS collections are inspired by the interesting but unnoticed design from disposable packaging. Challenged by this ambivalence, between waste and its aesthetic potential, her designs and materials play with the notion of precious and worthless. Through the direct use of packaging materials as molds, the negative space will be made visible and materialized in plaster and resin. The results, that will be combined, play with the duality between the familiar and the foreign.
(Note that the pieces, because of their material, should not be placed above a heat source.)
