Thomas Gentille: Twenty-First Century

Gallery Loupe is pleased to announce the publication of Thomas Gentille: Twenty-First Century – a stand-alone exhibition catalogue featuring actual-size reproductions of new work by artist Thomas Gentille – an internationally recognized and leading figure in contemporary jewelry.

Thomas Gentille: Twenty-First Century was on view at Gallery Loupe from October 20 – November 20, 2010. The exhibition featured over thirty-five of his pins, created in a wide range of forms and materials, including wood, pumice, sawdust, eggshell, resin, and stone. Also on display were watercolor studies investigating color and form, as well as a model of a house designed by the artist.

For over fifty years, Thomas Gentille has re-imagined the possibilities of jewelry as a medium of artistic expression. He has invented new techniques, explored alternative materials, and created works that are both minimal and poetic. Gentille’s use of unusual substances, ranging from eggshell to dental amalgam, has focused on manifesting the “soul” of each material as an integral quality in a finished piece.

As to my work in this exhibition, I prefer to let it speak for itself. It is my hope it will resonate with you, and tell you wonderful stories. For jewelry is, after all, a most wondrous language, Gentille writes.
