Intro
Through work inspired by nature, both artists metaphorically address contemporary societal issues: self-assertion expressed through brilliantly colored jewelry in Märta’s work, and the concept of protection—at once moving and striking—in Carina's.

Märta Mattsson, Carina Shoshtary
In Märta Mattsson’s work, the pieces celebrate the strength of asserting oneself openly. Unlike camouflage, a form of protection through invisibility, self-assertion carries risks. Insects become metaphors for individuals and communities who refuse silence, despite repression, discrimination, and violence. Created in an era marked by war, persecution, and the erosion of human rights, these works interrogate the very act of remaining visible and speaking out.

Carina Shoshtary’s works, brought together under the title Forms of Holding, take natural materials as their starting point: stones shaped by water, empty snail shells, seashells, wood, and paper and ;an innovative use of the 3D pen. Each already has its own history and accompanies the artist throughout her creative process. Forms of protection emerge over the course of the work. Structures — whether defenses or vessels — nonetheless hold a palpable vulnerability. As in nature, strength does not lie in rigidity or self-enclosure; it adapts and transforms
