The City Lit presents the exhibition "City and Guilds Jewellery" with works from students of the three levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Alongside the City and Guilds students. The Emerging Makers in residence also exhibit their work.
City Lit
Level 1-3
The City Lit, City and Guilds Jewellery exhibition is a celebration of work from students on three courses, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Each course is centred around two assignments which are object focused, e.g. a fretwork brooch and unusual settings project in the third level.
Students learn traditional jewellery skills such as chain making, stone setting, and surface manipulation; building on them throughout the three years, leading to further material exploration by the third level, including aluminium, leather and felt. There is a strong emphasis on design skills throughout the three levels alongside researching historical and contemporary jewellery. Some students are aiming to make jewellery their career and others are studying for personal enjoyment.
Alongside the City and Guilds students, The Emerging Makers in residence also exhibit their work. The EMIR scheme was set up to bridge the gap between the level three course and setting up a jewellery practise. The EMIR students have the opportunity for further 1:1 guidance as they are beginning their careers and in return they mentor the current City and Guilds students and share their journey as their professional practise develops.
Each course involves a Live project. Current projects include, The Judith Crowe Award for level one students. Claudia Rice live project for level two and Econe Gallery live project for level three.
Students on the higher courses also have the opportunity to take part in Pop Up shops held at the college.
