The municipality of Roermond has granted the Harrie Tillie award every other year since 2003. This municipal arts award honours a contemporary interior designer for his or her work. Moreover, the name of the award is in honour of the former curator of the Roermond City Museum, and profiles the Cuypershuis as a platform for contemporary interior design.
The prize has now been awarded three times and has a monetary value of € 7,000 and an exhibition in the Cuypershuis with accompanying publication. An accompanying symposium is one of the possibilities. The monetary prize is indexed every three years.
The renovations in 2009-2011 temporarily interrupted this tradition. After the opening, this biennial event will once again take place in the Cuypershuis. Every other year, there will be an exhibition by the winner of the Harrie Tillie award.
The potential of all these activities is that the Cuypershuis can contribute more to cultural tourism, increasing the quality of life, creativity, and social cohesion.
