Kayo Saito: “(…) tiny shiny objects (…) imagined as having fallen from the surface of the moon or sun.”
Artist list
Kayo Saito
Saito studied metal work at the Japanese Art College of Tokyo and finished her jewellery master in London, at the Royal College of Art. Her work has been regularly presented internationally, in the United Kingdom, Austria, US, Luxembourg, Portugal, the Netherlands and Japan.
In 2003 Kayo Saito presented in Reverso her first exhibition in Portugal, and from then on her work is regular presence in the gallery projects and as part of its permanent collection.
Hand in hand with traditional materials like gold and silver that Kayo Saito works with a delicacy usual in oriental culture, one finds polyester fibber moulded in volatile and ethereal forms, jewels like the “floating brooches” that soon became her hallmark at Reverso, where Saito showed her work in 2003.
It is with great delight that Reverso now presents the artist’ s most recent work in “Still life”, where the influence of plants and organic forms, with their simultaneous apparent fragility and vital energy, continues to be felt not only in the pieces’ formal structures, but always as inherent part of Kayo Saito’s creativity and aesthetic sense.
