German avant-garde workshop for design and technology in precious metals - Niessing - owes its fame to worldwide bestsellers such as the Tension ring.
This exhibition sets out to display 2 facets to the Niessing art:
- a faculty for producing each model in a whole range of nuances of golds, which can often be worn together, and which are limited only by the characteristics of each alloy. 18 carat red gold is slightly less flexible that yellow, 18 carat green gold offers less tension.
- a talent for inventing subtle colour variations like Iris® or Aura® where the colours of a piece may change from white to yellow or grey to red.
The pieces selected for the exhibit ion play with colours in a completely new way, using techniques invented by silversmiths looking to produce original effects by mixing gold with silver and copper in the proport ions required by “haute joaillerie” (18 carats or 750°/°°). The technical prowess of these creations, overshadowed only by their incredible beauty, will be admired by the connoisseurs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Niessing workshop:
Since 1904, Niessing has been constantly inventing machines and processes and these inventions (often patented) together with collaborations with extramural designers have pushed them at the forefront of the industry of contemporary jewellery. Their best known invention is “The Tension ring”: In 1979 Walter Wittek develops the patented “NIESSING Ring®.” A brilliant-cut diamond floats, seemingly without a setting, pinioned between the two ends of the ring’s band.
