Jewellery artists Tabea Reulecke (DE), Maarja Niinemägi (EE) and Teresa Lane (AU) present “Prince Charming and the Palace of Happiness”, an exhibition that brings together the subjective lenses of the three women from different cultural backgrounds to convey reflections, representations and imaginations of romantic love in jewellery and objects. The exhibition draws upon historic and mythological archetypes, gently interrogating contemporary notions of Eros while teasing out the knots of foreplay and lustily engaging in femininity, fetish, sirens, sweat and sweet memories of those that have touched us.
Love, loyalty, possession and desire have been expressed and signified in jewellery objects for thousands of years. What ARE our societal beliefs on romantic love here and now? What jewellery do we wear to signify our “romantic” status – to promise ourselves to someone, to hold another in thought upon our body, to lure a mate or to outwardly express our inward, and often, private erotic desires? What jewellery do we imagine as women, as sensual beings, lovers with bodies, minds, hearts and desires, fears and acceptance?
