Composed of plastic debris thrown up by the ocean, the sculptures and jewelry shown in the exhibition carry within them a deeper reflection on our behaviour and our responsibilities.
Artist list
Bridget Catchpole
From March 26 to April 22, British Columbia artist Bridget Catchpole presents her second solo exhibition, Still the ocean sounds the same, at Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h. Composed of plastic debris thrown up by the ocean on the shores of the Pacific, the sculptures and jewelry shown during the exhibition, beyond a seductive and magical aesthetic, carry within them a deeper reflection on our behaviour and our responsibilities. Read the text A Melancholy of the Playfulness by Catherine Granche about the current exhibition.
About the artist
Bridget Catchpole is a visual artist with a practice in contemporary jewelry and sculpture. Her work is a material exploration of plastic's worth and waste, a reflection of anthropogenic climate change, and a representation of recovery and transformation. Since 2004, she has altered discarded post-consumer and marine plastics in her work to produce one-of-a-kind pieces and, more recently, to create sculptural "Wall Jewellery" forms. Her studio is located on the K'omoks unceded traditional territory of Hornby Island, British Columbia.
Bridget Catchpole is a recipient of multiple grants from Canada Council for the Arts and BC Arts Council. Over the years, she participated in numerous exhibitions. Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h hosted her first solo exhibition Curios in 2007. Since 2020, one of her pieces is part of the permanent collection of the Montreal Fine Arts Museum.
