Ruddy Metal Studio is happy to welcome Aurélie Guillaume as their first artist in Residence in their Beijing studios. Located in the heart of the city, right by the 798 art zone, RMS offers the opportunity to connect with the local art scene. Moreover, Dandan Xing, founder of the organization, has worked closely with the Bao Hua Sheng cloisonné enameling factory to design a unique residency program for the visiting artist.
The art of enamelling has been practiced in China for many centuries, their techniques have changed very little and resisted against new technologies coming from Europe, hence keeping their craft so distinctive. Easily recognizable by the immense amount of wires and vibrant colors, the Chinese cloisonné vessels are considered some of the most exquisite in the world.
During the months of September and October 2019, Aurélie Guillaume has the exclusive opportunity of working at the factory and to learn the traditional techniques of Chinese cloisonné with the working team. One of our mission at RMS is to engage with the international scene and to nurture cultural exchanges, for this reason, Aurélie offered a week-long workshop to share all of her own secrets of cloisonné and the many other techniques that make her work so particular.
