A Curatorial Vision of Eight Designers at Romanian Jewelry Week 2026

What can jewelry become when moves beyond from its conventional definition as a decorative object? It can become memory, ritual, archive, a territory of exploration, a manifesto, microarchitecture, or even a tool for reflecting on the way we relate to technology and to our own identity. It is within this liminal space between object, body and idea that the discourse of Romanian Jewelry Week 2026 is constructed, the largest event in Romania where contemporary jewelry is viewed as an artistic form in continuous transformation (30 September–4 October at the National Library of Romania).

David Sandu, curator and founder of Romanian Jewelry Week, proposes a curatorial perspective on eight contemporary jewelry collections presented at the 7th edition of ROJW, which together construct a map of contemporary concerns within author jewelry. They are personal universes, each with its own formal and conceptual vocabulary, yet united by the same need to move beyond the decorative function and transform jewelry into a vehicle for ideas.
