Located in Tallinn Old Town, A-Gallery is home to Estonian art jewelry, which are handcrafted by professional artists. A-Gallery represents the work of more than a hundred different Estonian artists. As an exhibition space and jewelry store, A-Gallery tells the story of Estonian jewelry through different generations, forms, and ideas.
The gallery is heading into 2021 with a fresh visual message to celebrate local jewelry. The photo project involves three significant personalities in Estonian culture - actor Mirtel Pohla, singer YASMYN, and artist Anu Kalm - whose unique beauty and personal relationship with jewelry reflect the essence of A-Gallery and Estonia’s art jewelry.
Photographed by Riina Varol, stylized by Liis Plato, the photo series reflects the limitless possibilities of interpretations and meanings in jewelry. The symbolic nature of jewelry manifests in different ways - crystals are worn for protection, pearls to feel feminine and large earrings to feel invincible, says YASMYN describing how jewelry can be either enchanting, playful, meaningful, etc.
With art jewelry, even more important than the masterful techniques are the stories, emotions, and knowledge that the pieces are made with love and they are made to be worn. The captivating thing about jewelry is the vision of coexisting with it. It’s the idea that at a certain moment an object can become a part of me and without one defining the other, a certain symbiosis of the moment is formed, says Mirtel Pohla, describing a special moment where one recognizes themselves in jewelry. Through such encounters, people find a totem that accompanies them through life, sometimes through generations, and A-Gallery has had the sincere pleasure of being part of those meetings for over twenty years.
