Intro
The 9th edition of the New Talents Award by Klimt02 aims to recognize the work of graduate students in our field by supporting their careers in the professional world. Nominated by our school members, one of the selected graduates will win the New Talents Award.

In a world where our attention has become the new commodity and ubiquitous technology prevail, it is easy to disengage with the world, and engage with digital escapism. Whether it is cute kittens or influencers influencing, the world we escape to is designed to keep us there.

Name of graduation student: Jenny Jansson
Name of guiding teacher: Yuka Oyama

Nominated by HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design.

Jenny Jansson has successfully completed her degree project entitled 'Press Play: A Depiction of the Adverse Effects of Indulging in Excessive Digital Escapism Through Jewellery Art.'
Janssen’s has challenged to advocate the warrying state, where 84% of the Swedish population actively engages with social media as well as online-based activities on a daily basis. While troubles are swelling in our societies, we remain physically passive. Jenny Jansson’s jewellery pieces embody both allure and darkness: luminous worlds of digital entertainment that seduce individuals, and the dystopian future as the results of mass escapism. The 'Press Play' necklace embellishes its wearer with three-dimensional mechanical faunas and floras. With a closer look, we identify darkened logos of familiar social media giants such as TikTok, Twitter Birds, IG, FB, and Netflix. Our eyes are also magnetized to the irresistible triangular play buttons.

The statement of the artist:

In the anodised aluminium and the oxidised silver the digital logos and symbols take on new form. But what is left of the world we escape from when we are stuck in an infinite scroll?
