The work of Junchang Lu leaves me breathless, as when something astonishes you. The surprise comes from seeing something which is simultaneously extremely ancient and contemporary: one gets the feeling that the forms, the material and the colour in front of our eyes, and what our hands touch, are timeless. One feels displaced because Lu's work embodies oriental and occidental art, the past and the contemporary, the presence and the absence all at once. It incorporates a visionary line, which speaks continuously of space and time in a universal language where his work is knowledge, even at first sight, facing this presence-absence, this persistent and light scent so close to desire , that it takes your breath for good.
