For the first time in the history of the Munich SCHMUCK week as part of the IHM, a central information point will open on Marienplatz in Munich from 6 to 12 March.
The SCHMUCK infopoint was created on the initiative of Anne Gericke from the Cultural and Creative Industries Competence Team of the City of Munich, with the support of the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria. From 6-12 March 2023, information, brochures and a wide range of informative events will be offered daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in a room made available for temporary use by the City of Munich in the New Town Hall on Marienplatz.
The Jewellery Week in Munich was created as an accompanying programme to the International Trade and Crafts Fair. The special shows held there, "Schmuck ", "Talente- Masters of the Future" and "Exempla", as well as the "Frame" area dedicated to galleries for contemporary jewellery and utensils, have been a magnet for the international creative scene for years. Every year, many thousands of visitors and interested people take advantage of this opportunity to gain insight into the international avant-garde. Over the years, an extensive and globally unique programme of satellite exhibitions and events has developed in parallel, taking place in various parts of Munich.
In addition to exhibitions organised by artists themselves, institutions such as the Galerie Handwerk, the Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein and museums such as die Neue Sammlung-The Design Museum, Pinakothek der Moderne and the galleries for contemporary jewellery, such as Galerie Biro, Galerie Wittenbrink or Galerie Scheytt, present much-visited exhibitions on the subject of jewellery. Munich has thus earned its reputation as a jewellery city over decades. Jewellery makers, collectors, gallery owners and curators, as well as students, teachers and jewellery enthusiasts, travel from all over the world to attend the world's most important jewellery event.
Unfortunately, the jewellery event is not as well known in Munich itself as it is so to participants from all over the world. The SCHMUCK infopoint is intended to change this. Thanks to its optimal location, a central contact point for all information about the SCHMUCK Week in Munich will be set up. This will make the event better known to Munich residents and visitors, and will become the first address for all those interested.
In addition to the opportunity for information, a meeting place and action venue will be created here, which will be used during the period with various events such as information events from training opportunities and institutions on the topic of jewellery and performative actions, the daily programme will be available on the website, as well as on the Instagram profile.
The place can be used as a meeting point or resting zone between visits to the numerous exhibitions. A selection of trade books and magazines from will round off the insight into the international scene.
