Intro
SMCK On Reel, the first international video festival inspired by jewelry and wearable art, presents reels by more than forty-five international artists, designers, galleries, and institutions in simultaneous screenings in Kyiv, Vilnius, and Leipzig during the month of October.

SMCK On Reel videos will be screened from 20 October to 6 November in the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in Kyiv. SMCK ON REEL is screened in the framework of the group show "Ukraine is fighting". The show is curated by Iryna Udovychenko and features works made by twenty Ukrainian artists during the war.

SMCK On Reel will also be screened from 20 October to 20 November during the International Biennial for Contemporary Metal Art Metalofonas at Museum of Applied Arts & Design in Vilnius, and from 21 to 23 October during Grassimesse at Grassi Museum Leipzig, thus building a Chain of Solidarity with our fellow artists in Ukraine.

SMCK On Reel highlights tradition and future, memory and identity, environmental destruction and material awareness, femininity and feminism, gender, and social conventions. Twelve Ukrainian artists tell the story of living and working in the war zone or in exile. Their videos speak of the spiritual experience of cameo engraving, the omnipresence of destruction and death, the consolidation of one's own identity, the determined resistance, or the ancient rituals to connect with nature.

Reels, the art of the moving image, deploy the artist’s narrative and enable the public to indulge in the maker’s work. SMCK On Reel considers jewelry not only as a story-telling trigger, but also as a cultural catalyst, and a precious tool of diplomacy.

SMCK On Reel is curated by SMCK Magazine For Independent Artists.
