By cutting, carving, dyeing, and reshaping stacks of bound paper, I discovered how the layers could form intricate, fluid, and organic structures. The resulting shapes echoed petals, feathers, and even the movement of blossoms in the wind or birds nesting in branches.

The statement of the artist:
The "Flowers and Blossoms" collection emerged through play and experimentation, exploring the transformative potential of materials. Inspired by the delicate beauty of flowers and blossoms, the concept evolved as I worked with unconventional materials, allowing their particular qualities to guide the creative process.

Paper, especially from books, stood out as an intriguing medium. It’s a material that commonly passes through our hands on a daily basis—something we touch, write on, and read. Its tactile and versatile nature invited exploration. By cutting, carving, dyeing, and reshaping stacks of bound paper, I discovered how the layers could form intricate, fluid, and organic structures. The resulting shapes echoed petals, feathers, and even the movement of blossoms in the wind or birds nesting in branches.

The next phase focused on bringing the outside in, experimenting with branches of varying sizes and origins. I played with their forms—balancing positions, adjusting proportions, and finding how they could sit naturally and comfortably on the body, with the paper forms resting in the setting of the branches. The inclusion of branches introduced a new layer of play, contributing to the evolution of the pieces. I was drawn to how they could be worn and how the branch structures, with their knotted, irregular growth patterns, naturally balanced around the shoulders and limbs, as if they were meant to sit there. This connection between the natural forms and the human body brought a sense of ease to the design process.

At the same time, the text was still there. The words, often rendered unreadable through abstraction, became a texture. Occasionally, a word would remain clear, offering a brief connection to the book’s story and its crafted origins. The act of deconstructing a book, once a carefully crafted object with historical and cultural significance, felt both rebellious and strange. There was a discomfort in cutting it apart, as though I was violating something once held in high regard. Yet, this process also raised questions about how materials, once revered for their craftsmanship, are now viewed and repurposed in a world where accessibility has made them more commonplace.

The work draws from the book’s printed pages, layered structures, and repetitive patterns—now abstracted into new forms, where the material’s history is quietly embedded in the design.

Blending natural elements like wood with the refined qualities of paper, the pieces fuse the raw and the crafted, grounding the work while allowing it to transform. These subtle connections invite the wearer to interpret the pieces in their own way.
