Ted: Do you remember the bag I made with golden rings in it? That was at the Schmuck in 2011. They intended to give me the first price. But suddenly, a member of the jury opposed to it and said: THIS IS NOT JEWELLERY BECAUSE YOU CANNOT WEAR IT.
Ana: The question is wearability. It is returning as a main subject of contemporary jewellery.
Ted: That is not a criterion to me. It should be about jewellery. But to be functional or not, it is not a matter to me. I think that everything that has a relation with the body, physically or mentally, is jewellery. It is not only earrings, brooches or bracelet.
Words from Ted Noten and Ana Campos extracted from Ted Noten interview.
In this article, we present a selection of pieces that question the concept of wearability and, indeed, of jewellery.
