Upon selection by the six artists in our international jury, namely, Catarina Silva (Portugal), Gigi Mariani (Italy), Maria Rosa Franzin (Italy), Ruudt Peters (Netherlands), Wang Kezhen (China), Zhao Yi (China) in a professional, fair, impartial and open manner, 100 pieces are shortlisted for the Exhibition. "Is it going to be a very bad exhibition?"
This is a question that has been on my mind every day since the theme was announced. The constant controversy seems to remind me that an artwork priced at "100 yuan" means its predetermined bad quality and negligible value, but what the theme is actually intended for people to see is: "humble material" does not affect its artistic value! Like the artists who built Arte Povera, whether anti-capitalist or "immaterial" creations, they all had a powerful logic and theory behind them. For example, Lucio Fontana achieved the maximum effect with the least amount of materials and in the simplest ways. Therefore, given such an artistic proposition within a such an extreme limit, artists need to propose a thought-provoking, novel concept, which is more valuable than the material (jewelry) itself. However, materialized presentation of everyone's values is actually very difficult; especially, the depression caused by the COVID-19 epidemic has more or less shackled our creations, so we will focus on recording the current form of artistic creation — it is particularly important to record the development situation of contemporary jewelry in 2023.

Next, the shortlisted artists need to properly package their works and post them to VONMO's studio in Beijing. I will announce the exhibition poster of each shortlisted artist successively, along with the specific time and location of the exhibition. Like the visitors, I look forward to the market and history’s evaluation after the collective appearance of these 100 pieces of 100-yuan contemporary jewels.

Congratulations to the artists whose works are selected for “This jewelry is 100RMB” Exhibition! We also thank all the artists for the short period of only three months to work on the theme!
