When the File Comes First: What Is the Original in Contemporary Jewelry?

A jewel can begin as a 3D model, become an STL, a render, a print, an edition and a revised file. When all of them can legitimately belong to the same work, the idea of the original becomes less obvious.

In this Klimt02 contribution, designer, writer and creative director Sogand Nobahar looks at the chain of versions, translations and decisions that connects a digital file to a physical piece, asking how we can understand what is original, what is a possibility, and what becomes authoritative when jewellery exists across digital and physical forms.
