Jewellery for a future without us. Interview for Romanian Jewelry Week with Fangjing Hu

From September 30 to October 4, Bucharest becomes a meeting point for contemporary jewellery artists from around the world, as Romanian Jewelry Week returns for its seventh edition. More than 300 designers from over 50 countries will come together to share different perspectives, practices and ways of thinking about what jewellery can be.

Among them is artist Fangjing Hu, whose practice looks at our relationship with technology, nature and the objects we leave behind. In her Reverse Archaeology series, discarded electronic components are transformed into jewellery imagined as artefacts from a distant future, fragments of a civilisation that once believed in technological progress, but eventually began to question where that progress was taking it.
