Writing with Objects. An interview with Ji Young Kim

From 5 to 7 March 2026, during the last Munich Jewellery Week, the exhibition All In by studio WearHouse took place. WearHouse, which describes itself as a “home for jewellery” and has staged a number of unusual exhibition projects since its founding at the end of 2024, decided this time to give carte blanche to the audience. Visitors to All In were invited to vote for their three favourite pieces of jewellery from around 500 pieces on display. The choice was far from easy! In essence, it turned into a study of what audiences respond to today, what draws the viewer in, and what exactly the public considers interesting contemporary art jewellery. Three winners were ultimately named: first place went to Lucie Houdková, second to Roberta Consalvo, and third to Ji Young Kim.

I spoke with Ji Young, a jeweller from Korea, and, as always, I wanted to show you, the reader, not only what she makes as a jeweller, but also her background and how she came to jewellery-making, so as to build as full a portrait of the artist as possible.
