That year, as I recall, the price of gold rose from over 300 to more than 400. Once during a casual conversation, I mentioned that I wanted to work with gold but had never used it because it was too expensive. Every Christmas, Jiro gives each of us assistants a gift we wish for. He remembered that offhand comment I made and gave me this piece of gold for Christmas. I've never used it — I've kept it all this time. Finally, for this exhibition, I've incorporated it into my work and am showing it together with the piece..
