. In his essay “In Praise of Shadows” (1933), Jun’ichiro Tanizaki illustrates the relationship between sensory perceptions, portraying the traditional Japanese sweet Yôkan to reveal how ambient darkness can enhance its savoury experiences. Inspired by this remark, I have created a work on the relationship between light and shadow.
. This piece, which visually evokes the appearance of Yôkan, employs amber and buffalo horn. These organic materials symbolise the symbiotic relationship between Flora and Fauna, reflecting the harmony inherent in interconnected nature.
. The inspiration from traditional Japanese sweets is integral to my creative journey. Drawing from their aesthetics, I began creating art jewellery after over three decades of practising architecture and design, merging these disciplines into a tactile and wearable form of art.

Intro
AMBERIF Design Award (ADA) is a competition that has been accompanied by AMBERIF in Gdańsk for 28 years. Its goal is to promote the Baltic amber as an means of artistic expression. The competition takes place every year under a different slogan. Each edition attracts new artists from different parts of the world, and its effect is the exhibition presents works for a long time in memory.
This year’s edition gathered a record number of 250 participants from 34 countries, who submitted a total of 365 works.

The theme for the 2025 edition was Relations:
The modern world, although diverse, is strongly interconnected on many levels. Relationships are the foundation of existence, an inherent element of life, permeating every dimension.
Interpersonal relationships, relationships between humans and nature, humans and technology, individuals and communities, as well as deep, often unconscious ties between the past and the present - all this contributes to our experience of being in the world.
Relationships characterize our lives: initially those with parents, siblings and extended family, later those with friends, partners, and the community. They shape our identity, attitudes, emotions and values. They are like a delicate thread that connects us with others, creating a complex network of relationships.
Jewelry as a personal item can be a symbol of these bonds. We often reveal our attachment through jewelry; it is a sign of belonging to a group, family or life partner. Sometimes they are obvious codes, sometimes they are secret, very personal signs.
