“The physical and cultural environment of the Southern regions of the U.S. has long been a fascination of mine. The works of great American writers like Mark Twain, William Faulkner and Thomas Wolfe evoke within me a curiosity to explore and understand the uniquely Southern “sensibility” and way of life.
Recently, I had the opportunity to spend time in Cape Fear, North Carolina. This trip became the inspiration for “Navigating Cape Fear.” The work included in this show is greatly informed by the mysteries of Cape Fear itself, as well as my own personal “fear” that I encountered upon re-entering the world of jewelry making in my studio after a year long “hiatus”. As I navigated both the physical and emotional “waters” of Cape Fear, I found expression in the intimate format of the enamel “miniature.”
