Intro
From industrial leftovers, found objects, discarded plastic parts, etc., Philipp Spillmann conjures pieces with precision and care, whose value and meaning are now redefined by him, even though the material has long since left the comfort zone of classic jewellery.

Philipp Spillmann
Born and raised in Switzerland, Philipp Spillmann completed a traditional goldsmith apprenticeship in Zurich after school. His path from skilled craftsman to freelance artist led him to a personal and geographical expansion of his horizons: After initially exploring Norway on his travels, he emigrated to Norway at the age of 24, and stayed. With the change of location, not only did the light change, but also his work. Instead of precious metals, he became increasingly fascinated by materials that no longer have a place or value in our lives.

For Philipp Spillmann, a finder and collector of seemingly useless objects, gold is practically lying on the street, and temptation lurks around every corner. Things that others discard surprise and inspire him to create new forms and stories. After all, in a world of abundance, why not use the material that's already there?

From industrial leftovers, found objects, discarded plastic parts, etc., Philipp Spillmann conjures pieces with precision and care, whose value and meaning are now redefined by him – even though the material has long since left the comfort zone of classic jewelry. With humor and a wink, his works seduce and inspire with their perfect appearance and new history. Their transformation into their new identity is so expertly crafted that their true origins remain a secret forever. Or – if revealed – cause great astonishment!

Philipp Spillmann has lived in Norway as a freelance artist since 2001, supported by a ten-year work grant that gives him freedom – and time. Time to collect, think, let go, and create. The result is unique pieces that captivate us with wit and charm and broaden our horizons.

I'm very excited to be showing a special selection of works from the past ten years—all pieces that are particularly dear to me, most of which have never been seen outside of Norway. Many of them are made from Hi-macs offcuts (a mineral-plastic material similar to Corian). For me, they mark the transition from classical goldsmith to independent jewelry designer. One of my two "table leg" pieces (Bruna's favorite) is also coming to Zurich. The other version will be exhibited at the Norwegian National Museum in September.

Opening: Saturday, June 28, starting at 12 p.m.
The opening will offer a unique opportunity to meet Philipp Spillmann in person. We are delighted that Philipp Spillmann will be celebrating the opening of his exhibition with us.
