Artist list
Peter Schmid
Peter Schmid arrives from Konstanz, Germany, with a new collection inspired by Ukiyo, the vibrant urban culture that flourished during Japan’s Edo period from 1600 to 1867.
Through luminous gemstones, painterly metals, and forms alive with movement, he reimagines this historic culture through the unmistakable language of Atelier Zobel.
The word Ukiyo, translated as floating world, once described the Buddhist understanding of life as transient. Over time, its meaning transformed. It came to embody a more carefree way of living, a way devoted to fashion, art, theater, pleasure, and the beauty of the present moment.
Revered worldwide for his fusion of precious metals, extraordinary stone settings, and fluid compositions, Schmid creates jewelry that resists convention. Each piece carries a sense of motion, as though it is still becoming. Forms recall ribbons caught in the wind, the sweep of fabric, the geometry of historic ornamentation, and the layered beauty of Japanese art and design.
These works continue that pursuit, transforming precious materials into expressive, wearable works of art that bridge the enduring beauty of the past with an unmistakably modern spirit. The Pursuit of Pleasure and the Floating World invites us to pause within the passing moment and inspires to seek beauty, and embrace movement.
Opening reception: August 7th, from 5-7 pm.
Opening hours:
Monday - Sunday, 11 am - 5 pm.
Peter Schmid will be present through August 16th.
