Patina Gallery invites you to join us for the opening of Vestiges, a new exhibition by Latondra Newton, which offers a wearable interpretation of objects collected over decades, celebrating their singularity and the passage of time that has shaped them.
Artist list
Latondra Newton
Throughout the exhibition, beauty is found in continuation rather than completion. Originating from around the world - Northern and Western Africa, Central and Eastern Asia, the Middle East, North America, and Northwestern Europe - these are objects that have survived centuries, journeys, and countless unknown hands. Now they enter a new, playful and wearable chapter. Worn close to the body, they become vessels for new stories while preserving the traces of those that came before.
Fragments of Roman glass, weathered driftwood, ancient symbols, stones shaped by time, and artifacts gathered across continents became companions long before they became jewelry. While rediscovering these objects, Newton realized they formed a coherent body of work connected by a common idea: drawing on their history, imperfections, and emotional resonance to give them a meaningful new life. Rather than transforming objects beyond recognition, the artist reimagines them through thoughtful intervention. Each piece begins with an object that already carries the marks of use, travel, and history. Through subtle adjustments of proportion, setting, and composition, she reveals the enduring beauty already present within the material.
Vestiges carries this commitment to materiality through to the end, the gemstones are chosen for both their ethical sourcing and their individuality, creating a tension between past and present.
Join the gallery reception on Friday, 12th June 2026, from 5 to 7 pm.
Opening hours: From 11 am to 5 pm.
