I create sculpted pieces with presence, inspired by the rich stories of women around me. Raw textures, natural gemstones and fine metals are combined in ways that retain the essence of nature.
Patina Gallery is delighted to introduce a new artist, Latondra Newton, to our collection with her debut exhibition, Unearthed.
Artist list
Latondra Newton
Newton is an artist who masterfully fuses technical expertise with creative vision. Her transition from engineering to jewelry design showcases a profound appreciation for both structure and aesthetics, leading to the creation of a signature style celebrated for its innovative and sustainable designs. Through her work, Newton creates pieces that transcend ornamentation, serving as expressions of individuality, culture, and the natural world.
Experiences living and traveling abroad have enriched her perspective, allowing Newton to incorporate global inspirations into her designs. Her expertise in form, function, and quality influences every piece she designs, ensuring a perfect balance of structural integrity and aesthetic beauty. Additionally, her artistry is deeply rooted in her heritage, drawing inspiration from a lineage of artisans skilled in textiles, woodwork, and architecture. This rich connection to craftsmanship drives her to create jewelry that is not only visually captivating but also imbued with profound meaning.
Jewelry should feel like it belongs to you before you even put it on. It carries your story, your spirit, and your power.
Each piece woven with rich narratives draws inspiration from diverse traditions, environments, and artistic movements. Merging engineering precision with artistic vision, Newton has created a body of work that is both structurally sound and deeply expressive. She personally carves the wax models for each piece, ensuring that every design feels as though it had been naturally unearthed. Her use of raw textures, natural gemstones, and fine metals brings a distinct character to her work, making each piece feel unique and organic. Her designs invite wearers to mix and match pieces, combining them with vintage or contrasting styles to create unique visual narratives. This interactive element fosters a personal connection between the art and the wearer, making each piece more than just an accessory—it becomes part of their identity.
Beyond jewelry, Newton expands her artistic reach into home accessories, creating bejeweled objects that embody the same level of craftsmanship and uniqueness as her wearable art. Her evolution as an artist highlights the boundless possibilities that arise when technical expertise meets artistic passion, positioning as a unique voice in contemporary jewelry and design.
Artist opening reception: Friday, March 28, 2025, 5 - 7 pm.
