Patina Gallery is excited to welcome artist Roc Majoral from Majoral Atelier to the gallery for his first trunk show. Joining us from Spain, Majoral seeks out the limits of the material, creating light and delicate constructions.
Artist list
Roc Majoral
Mythical Treasures reflect Majoral's passion for interpreting natural landscapes and textures, and transforming them into elegant, wearable art. The collection emphasizes both aesthetic beauty and the timeless connection between humanity and nature, reflecting the Mediterranean essence that underpins Majoral's identity. The designs demonstrate Majoral's mastery of transforming traditional artisanal methods into striking, contemporary designs.
Founded in the 1970s on the island of Formentera by artist Enric Majoral, the Majoral Aterlier was born from a life experience developed in an ancestral Mediterranean culture, rich in his interpretations of the island’s flowers and plants, and the endless sea that surrounds him.
Joining Majoral in 2005, Roc Majoral, son of Enric, has continued as a metalsmith with his fresh and dynamic creations, always maintaining a connecting thread with the work of his father through the influence of the light and color, cultural diversity and natural richness of the of the Mediterranean world.
Roc seeks out the limits of the material, creating light and delicate constructions. He combines traditional constructive techniques with the inclusion of new technologies. Across the collection, textured oxidized silver and high karat gold possess a vivacious energy, imbued with innovation and creativity. Without ever losing the elegance of refined & timeless taste, the artist composes works that are timeless and of the cultural richness that make us dream of Etruscan princesses or from Minoan traditions. Understanding jewelry as a meaningful element of expression of the personal image, Roc creates works of wearable art that are built upon lifelong explorations of beauty and his own creative journey. Roc was awarded the Couture Design Award for Gold in 2012 (Las Vegas USA) for the design in gold of the Tresor necklace (codesigned with Abril Ribera) and received the Couture Design Award for Silver in 2015 for the design in silver of the necklace Marina. Roc has, among others, taken part in Espai Joia 2013 (Barcelona), the conference "Mediterranean inspired jewels” at EASD (School of Art and Design of Gran Canaria), at the third edition of Design Habitat (Madrid) and has exhibited at the Kyoto Handicraft Center for the Catalan Arts and Craft week in Japan.
Mythical Treasures, a trunk show of art jewelry by Spanish jeweler, Roc Majoral, opens at Patina Gallery at 131 W. Palace Avenue on Friday, December 13, and continues through December 15, 2024.
An opening reception to meet Roc Majoral will be held on December 13 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The public is invited.
