Between Heaven and Hell lies the life of an artist. A life filled with enthusiasm, exhilaration, moments of flow and feelings of wonder, but also contradictions, doubts, endless questioning and performance anxiety. Constant attempts to understand what I and humans are are doing. Observing and depicting the world around us, giving physical form to thoughts and ideas, and then communicating with others is a powerful driving force, often leading to moments of sudden insight.

Sofia Björkman
The exhibition presents jewellery and objects created over recent years. The works were made at different times, with different starting points, using a variety of materials and techniques. The processes have been driven by a desire to attempt what initially seems impossible, or simply rather absurd to pursue. Examples include braiding crab shells, crafting fish bones as if they were made of glass, transforming materials to resemble marble, drawing three-dimensional landscapes that one can step into, or casting wood instead of carving it.
I am fascinated by what happens when a material is used in ways it was never intended for, when a technique is transferred to an unexpected context, or when something familiar takes on an unfamiliar form.
/Sofia Björkman
There is a desire to explore the possibilities of materials, but also to question her own assumptions about what is possible, reasonable or worth investigating. Often, it is the resistance, the difficulties and the unexpected results that drive the work forward.
Through experimentation with materials, forms and techniques, I try to grapple with different states of being and challenge established perceptions. I domesticate the wild, humanise the natural and distort the obvious. Sometimes with seriousness, sometimes with stubbornness, and often with a strong desire to discover something.

Between heaven and hell, there are no clear boundaries, only an ongoing search for connections, meaning and other ways of seeing the world.
