For the first time in Florence, an exposition of Brazilian contemporary jewellers.
The exhibition curated by Miriam Mina Korolkovas will display the work of 25 artists showing the diversity of expression influenced by culture and materials.
For the first time ALCHIMIA Gallery will be exhibiting Brazilian Art Jewelry. Curated by Miriam Mirna Korolkovas, who has been working with art jewelry since 1970, she has been researching and connecting artists throughout the Brazilian territory.
The exhibit will showcase the diversity of expression influenced by their culture and materials. Twenty-five artists are selected to participate creating provocative work that explores a range of concepts from political to environmental. Other jewelry pieces will valorize the Brazilian culture and its natural resources by integrating salvage material into the work.
Rubens Matuck, for example, works with extinguished and rare woods from Brazil. Nina Lima calls attention the exploitation of Brazilian miners. To invent her textile jewelry, Renata Meirelles incorporates both the laser-cut pattern and the remnants resulting in an environmentally sustainable process. In her work, Flavia Rivetti elevates waste material from the mining process into fine art.
Korolkovas is active in curating and exhibiting work nationally and internationally. In São Paulo city she has curated TRAJECTORY at the A CASA museu do objeto brasileiro; JOYA in Barcelona, Spain; Slusser Gallery in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States; co-curating with Renata Mellão the 4th Brazilian Design Biennial in Minas Gerais, Brazil, and now at the ALCHIMIA Gallery, Florence, Italy.
