Intro
For his second solo exhibition at the Closer Gallery, Hansel Tai created a collection of objects imagined as part of a fantastical Jianghu survival guide—concealed weapons, antidotes, tools, and talismans for navigating an uncertain world.

What gives life meaning? What makes life worth living? While working alone in my studio, I have been contemplating these grand yet fundamental questions. I believe that objects can transcend their decorative function and become mysterious personal artefacts: talismans that carry memories, desires, protection, and emotional meaning. They can uplift, support, protect, and comfort the individual.

I believe jewellery can exist beyond its decorative function. It can become a mystical object: a personal talisman charged with memory, desire, protection, and emotional meaning.

Concealed weapons are materialised totems—tools of survival, resistance, and self-defence. Antidotes represent healing, intimacy, love, and emotional support.
Assassination — Volume 2 Concealed Weapons and Antidotes brings together objects imagined as weapons, love totems, and emotional-support talismans— these pieces of jewellery are made for surviving the Jianghu, and perhaps, our own uncertain world.
