Intro
At the centre of The Earth We Carry is a simple but profound movement that brings together nine Chinese and Dutch ceramic jewellery artists: from the ground, through the hand, to the body.

Artist list

Judith Bloedjes, Zheng Dongmei, Bernie Haspels, Peter Hoogeboom, Ma Jun, Huang Min, Zhang Min, Wu Shu-Lin, Esther Stasse, Karin van Paassen
The works in The Earth We Carry follow a journey from raw material to intimate object. Earth is shaped by the hand, transformed through fire and brought back into contact with the body.

Through this process, the artists reveal the possibilities of ceramic as a jewellery material: tactile yet durable, fragile yet resilient, natural yet transformed. The resulting works carry both the physical traces of their origins and the personal marks of their makers.

By bringing these works together, The Earth We Carry reflects on the continuing relationship between humans and the earth — a relationship expressed not only through the materials we use, but also through the objects we make, wear and carry with us.

The exhibition therefore looks beyond jewellery as adornment. It presents ceramic jewellery as a way to explore how material can connect us to ourselves, to others, and to the natural world.
