Intro
Weaving gold into regal jewels, master goldsmith Mary Hu uses her hands rather than a loom. Hu twines high carat gold wires into these stunning brooches, giving them fluidity and softness as only she can.

This has been a fun venture. I was not working for a good several months as everything I designed I did not like. Then, last fall, I started coming up with these designs and decided it would be worth the time and materials to make them. I have long loved the early Celtic designs derived from intersecting compass arcs. I have also liked the Japanese family crests that are seen on the back of kimonos. They are often round and divided into thirds within the circle. Continuing to use the lily form, I have had fun designing within this format for this group of brooches. The sizes are similar, all being from 3 to 3 1/2 inches in diameter. Most are slightly domed.
