Intro
(...) Auli Laitinen is questioning the current fashion of piercing and its apparent wish to be " as different as everybody else". (...)
With the jewellery exhibition "Everybody wants" the artist Auli Laitinen is questioning the current fashion of piercing and its apparent wish to be " as different as everybody else".
- I am thinking of the old earring signal system within the gay community, the radical punk scene and the sexual advanced persons experiments with their bodies.
Is piercing an expression for sexual liberation or is it a commodity amongst others?
says Auli Laitinen.
As an artist Auli Laitinen has worked with peoples fears and predudices about the in correct for a along time. She calls her jewellery contemporary conversation pieces. In the show Everybody wants there one will find different materials that somehow collides with a piercing - knitting, old ladies blouses and curtain decorations.
Auli Laitinen thinks that jewellery has such an obvious place amongst humans that they are well suited for message carrying and accessible conversation topics.
The title refers to that Everybody wants to be nice and pretty to someone, somewhere, sometimes.
-It is deeply rooted within us, she says.
Auli Laitinen is educated at HDK, University of Gothenburg, School of Crafts & Design at the jewellery art department.
