RMS. Ruddy Metal Studio is proud to present the first exhibition in 2020, a duo show by South African artist Monique Van Zyl and Australian artist Brendan McCumstie. Each work represents a piece of the past from both of the collaborating artists, who have built these original works. They are one-of-a-kind creations which bridge between fine art and jewellery.

The reflections are reminiscent of the way our memories work – the overlapping of stories – building layer upon layer of our chronicle. We find ourselves replaying certain passages in our lives over and over again prompted by one situation or another. Then, these two moments spaced in time can build a new narrative – sometimes in focus and other times a vague hazy image. Our lives are the sum of our experiences and their memories – these pieces represent a small part of that story. The viewer is invited to make their own connections to the images and begin to envisage what their own reflections of life are.
/ Van Zyl & McCumstie (December 2019)
Right now Australia is in a disastrous situation with fires consuming most of the country and decimating the native animal population.
The majority of these species are endemic to Australia. If the world loses these creatures now, they are lost for eternity.
To give our support, 20% of all sales from this exhibition will be donated to the volunteer animal rescue service based on the north coast of NSW.
We may not be able to put out the fires, but we can all do our bit to help.
